Well, in fact they are very similar in nature. When you meditate, you focus your mind and allow all thoughts to drop away leaving your mind blank and in a state of complete relaxation. At the same time, you become completely unaware of your physical body for the duration of the meditative process. At any time, you are perfectly able to return to full conscious awareness and are similarly aware of your surroundings. In fact while in a state of meditation, you are not asleep, merely in an altered state of mind which enables inner healing in all areas to come about.
This is almost exactly the same condition as being in a state of hypnosis. Similarly, when in hypnosis, your mind is focused and your thoughts drop away leaving you in a pure mental state of complete relaxation. You are not asleep and are aware of your surroundings. You can return to full conscious awareness at any time you choose and at no time are you under anyone else's influence.
Clarity of Thinking
One thing that meditation does provide for you is a certain clarity of thinking that can literally transform your life from one of littleness, limitation and failure to one of greatness, prosperity and every growing success! If you doubt this concept, don't just discard it without trying it out for yourself. You can never know for sure if something works unless you not only see it with your own eyes, but experience it for yourself. If you think that meditation is just for hippies, Buddhists and fringe eccentrics, you'd be wrong. It is for everyone who wants to experience it!
The benefits that you can experience from simply quieting your mind for a short period of time each day far outweigh the perceived loss in productivity in the time spent in doing it. It is something that everyone should consider doing each day, just like you exercise your body, you should also exercise your mind to keep it healthy and help it to grow strong and useful!
With this additional clarity of thought comes a truly structured, effective and disciplined way of thinking (see: disciplinedthinking.com for more details) that make it possible to generate great ideas that can help you to move forward, overcome obstacles and grow in your own life.
Is this not worth the small investment in time and effort to accomplish? Of course it is!
So in answer to the question "Are meditation and hypnosis similar?" the answer is a resounding yes!
That's all for this post. I'll be back with more frequent updates.
